Hollywood, there is sad news. Michael K. Williams—the ‘Lovecraft Country’ and ‘The Wire’ star has died at age 54. Michael who played the role as Baltimore stick-up man Omar Little on HBO’s The Wire was found dead in his Brooklyn home on Monday afternoon. May he rest in peace! The Hollywood Reporter reports that Michael K. Williams’s body was found in his Brooklyn home on Monday afternoon according to a New York Police Department representative.
Michael K. Williams’ longtime representative Marianna Shafran of Shafran PR had this to say to the portal when she was contacted about the sad news of the death of Michael. “It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. They ask for your privacy while grieving this insurmountable loss”. His cause of death hasn’t been disclosed yet but it should be known in the coming days.
Since Michael K. Williams was a frequent star of HBO, the network has also released a statement concerning his sad death.
HBO’s statement said:
“We are devastated to learn of the passing of Michael Kenneth Williams, a member of the HBO family for more than 20 years. While the world is aware of his immense talents as an artist, we knew Michael as a dear friend who was beloved by all who had the privilege to work with him. We send our deepest condolences to his family for this immeasurable loss.”
Michael Kenneth Williams’ death is obviously a big blow to the HBO family—judging from the network’s statement about his sudden demise. The HBO family and Hollywood have surely lost a great actor. He was born on November 22, 1966. He left behind a son, Elijah Williams.
TMZ also reports that a relative who hadn’t heard from Michael K. Williams for a couple of days found his lifeless body in the living room of his Brooklyn home with drug paraphernalia on a nearby table upon arriving there. TMZ suggests that he may have died from overdose (OD).
The first portal to report Michael K. Williams’s death, The New York Post also adds that he was found unconscious in his luxury Williamsburg pad with a substance that appeared to be heroin on his kitchen table. Authorities pronounced Michael dead at 2:12 pm according to NYP sources. The sources also claimed that The Wire star appeared to have “fatally” overdosed.
Actor and businessman, Wendell Edward Pierce, had this to say about Michael K. Williams on Twitter:
“The depth of my love for this brother, can only be matched by the depth of my pain learning of his loss. A immensely talented man with the ability to give voice to the human condition portraying the lives of those whose humanity is seldom elevated until he sings their truth”.
“If you don’t know, you better ask somebody. His name was Michael K. Williams. He shared with me his secret fears then stepped out into his acting with true courage, acting in the face of fear, not in the absence of it. It took me years to learn what Michael had in abundance”.
